One would assume that a sign of this size and magnitude would use a massive amount of power. In actuality, the SPEEDVEGAS sign operates on just 30 amps of power each day and has an operational lifespan of 25,000 hours, making it one of the most energy efficient signs of its kind. While the SPEEDVEGAS sign may reach 100 feet into the sky, it also extends an additional 26 feet into the ground. To insure that the SPEEDVEGAS sign will be able to withstand the high winds that tear through the Las Vegas valley, 37 cubic yards of concrete surround the base of the sign allowing the sign to withstand winds up to 115 MPH.
In addition to the installation of the SPEEDVEGAS sign, construction is still underway on the 20,000-square-foot, 2-story welcome center that will feature indoor and outdoor observation decks, food and beverage selections at a well-appointed café, meetings and event space and much more. Those that are interested in coming out to see the initial lighting of the SPEEDVEGAS sign will need to take exit 25 on Interstate 15.
