
Hamilton had to start at the back of the field due to a complete engine package overhaul that took place after final practice. Starting in the back of the field placed Hamilton in a precarious situation that led to a broken front wing on the opening lap as he attempted to avoid a collision between Ferrari team-mates Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. This led to a drama-filled day for Hamilton who made 5 unscheduled stops on pit road to repair damage before finishing in a very respectable 7th place. Vettel was able to rebound from the first lap incident to finish the Chinese Grand Prix with a 2nd place podium finish.
