When drivers talk about racing lines, there are two main schools of thought on how to best approach a corner. The first technique, appropriately known as the classic or traditional racing line, aims to hit the geometric apex of the corner. By hitting the apex of your turn in line with the geometric apex of the corner, you’ll be able to smooth out your corner efficiently as well as maintain your momentum by minimizing the tightness of the corner arc. This method of attacking aggressive corners like the ones you’ll see at SPEEDVEGAS is also the easiest way to reduce the likelihood of oversteer and understeer.


The modern racing line has grown in popularity because it offers the driver the opportunity at the fastest overall lap time. This method looks to take advantage of corners that specifically lead into longer straightaways by hitting the racing apex after the geometric apex. By sacrificing some entry speed, driver’s who can exploit the modern racing line on our racetrack are able to come out of the turns at much higher speeds.


Both techniques have their own pros and cons, but the modern racing line offers the opportunity to reach faster lap time, but only in a high powered car.
