Haas Motorsports Does It Again

Traditionally speaking, Formula One start up teams struggle to stay competitive as they adjust to the complicated regulations that govern the sport. This does not appear to be the case for Haas Motorsports as they have earned championship points in the first two rounds of the 2016 season. Haas driver Romain Grosjean finds himself sitting 5th in the championship points above title favorite and four-time Formula One World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. This incredible feat comes as a surprise to everyone in motorsports and is setting up to be one of the biggest stories of the year.

Haas Motorsports is the first American based race team to compete in Formula One in over 30 years and fields cars manufactured from Ferrari. With headquarters located 30 miles outside of Charlotte, North Carolina alongside sister team Stewart-Haas Racing; Haas Formula One has set up a forward operating base in Bandbury, Oxforshire to help with the logistical challenges involved with competing in a global circuit. While the two teams are separate entities, they do share principal ownership belonging to team captain, Gene Haas.

Haas Formula One may be making a big splash with fans and those that cover the racing series; there are plenty of those in Formula One that do not share the enthusiasm that has captivated the racing world. Formula One Group chief executive Bernie Ecclestone recently told Autoweek that the Haas race team is “basically a Ferrari. It will perform because it’s a Ferrari.” Any team that is looking to break into an established motorsport should expect time to play an important part of being able to earn the respect of other competitors and those that represent the establishment. The best and most effective way to do this is to continue to perform at a level high above expectation. Haas Formula One is doing just that.

Sebastian Vettel Receives New Engine for Chinese Grand Prix

Four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel, found himself out of the second round of competition in Bahrain before the race even started. Vettel experienced a catastrophic engine failure during the Sakhir formation lap that resulted in an early retirement and plenty of concerns about Ferrari’s engine reliability in 2016. This is the second engine failure for Scuderia Ferrari in as little as two weeks with Kimi Raikkonen receiving zero points in Australia due to a failure with the turbo charger. Early season engine woes during both weeks of competition are raising concerns that Ferrari’s dreams of ending Mercedes dominance may be over before the season truly get under way.
