This marks Harvick’s 8th Sprint Cup victory at the 1-mile, flat oval that helps to further explain why he was the odds-on favorite to win this weekend. Harvick was able to take control of the second half of the race in his Stewart-Hass Racing No. 4 Chevy SS after surviving a late-race restart that set up the dramatic last-lap attempt by Edwards to steal the victory. Both cars managed to engage in plenty of beating and banging on the final lap that left Edwards wondering if he should have played so nice.

“I should have wrecked him!” stated Edwards during post race interviews. “No, those guys were doing a great job all day. They were on old tires but we were faster, so I thought ‘I’ll just move him out of the way and get by.’ I just didn’t move him far enough. And then he got up the door and I was trying to time it. I think he is going to beat me so I tried to sideswipe him before he got there, but I needed to be in front of his front tire… Man, what a fun race though. I wanted to win that thing. Buy you win some, you lose some.

With this victory, Kevin Harvick has secured a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, NASCAR’s version of a post season that will take place during the last 10 races of the season.
