All eyes will be watching Helio Castroneves as he once again attempts to tie the record for the most Indianapolis 500 wins. This will be the 7th attempt by Castroneves to join the elite ranks of Foyt, Unser and Rick Mears who each have four wins to their names. Expect 2015 Indy 500 champion and NASCAR veteran Juan Pablo Montoya to have something to say about Helio’s intentions as he sets out to tie Castroneves at 3 wins apiece. The 2015 championship runner-up has been on a tear since returning to the Verizon IndyCar series and has won on some of the world’s most prestigious tracks to include the Grand Prix of Monaco (2003), 24 Hours of Daytona (2007, 2008, 2013), British Grand Prix (2005) and Grand Prix of Long Beach (1999).

When it comes to the rookie class of 2016, our attention will be focused on Formula One driver Max Chilton who will make his IndayCar debut driving for Chip Ganassi. Chilton has shown to be a threat on the ovals as much as the road courses since picking up a win at Iowa Speedway last year in the Indy Lights racing series. Chilton will join four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti at Team Ganassi who will definitely be able to provide the F1 veteran with plenty of advice.

One of the most exciting aspects to the beginning of the 2016 season is that all 22 cars have an equal chance of becoming the 2016 Verizon IndyCar series champion. With all of the points being reset to zero once the green flag drops on Sunday, it is everyone’s season to win or lose.
