Volkswagen Polo R WRC Wins Rally Car of the Year for 2015

Since its inception a couple of years ago, the Volkswagen Polo R WRC has seen tremendous success in competition, winning the World Rally Championship Constructor’s Championship title from 2013 to 2015. Due to its domination in the world of rally car racing over the past few years, it hardly comes as a surprise that the Volkswagen Polo R WRC is now the back-to-back winner of the Autosport Award for Rally Car of the Year.

Volkswagen’s return to the World Rally Championship in 2013 has proved to be a phenomenal success, thanks in no small part to the Polo R and its driver, Sebastien Ogier. In addition to the well-deserved accolades the Polo R has received, its French driver has also won the WRC Driver’s Championship for the third consecutive year. In fact, over the course of a 13-rally season, Ogier himself accounted for eight of Volkswagen’s 12 victories.

With such dominant performance over past few years, it begs the question, what has Volkswagen been doing that is so different than its peers?

The Polo R WRC, technically speaking, is one of the best cars ever made in the world of rally car racing. It produces the maximum amount of grip and its biggest strength, aside from a highly skilled and motivated driver, is its ability to maintain its balance and handling in some of the toughest courses around. Where most rally cars need to aggressively swing the rear out to make the turn, the Polo R WRC instead chooses to sharply attack the turn from the inside.

Over the course of a long race, it’s easy to see how the Polo R WRC has remained on top for three years running and we’re sure that Sebastien Ogier and the entire Volkswagen team are eager to continue their dominance as we move into 2016.
